When to Consider a Capacity Mailer
When packing items thicker than a few millimeters
This envelope has zero native depth. Overstuffing will cause the board to bow and the corners to tear. If your product has noticeable thickness, look at a capacity mailer or a shallow folding carton.
When you need a self-locking closure
This template requires tape, glue, or a sticker to stay closed. If you want a mechanical lock without adhesive, consider a string-and-button envelope or a tuck-flap sleeve.
Supply State and Adhesive Choices
Pre-Glued Pocket vs. Flat Supply
Decide whether you want the converter to fold and glue the side and bottom flaps into a ready-to-load pocket, or if you prefer them delivered completely flat for wrap-around packing.
Top Flap Sealing Strategy
The final top flap needs a seal. You can specify peel-and-seal tape applied by the converter, use your own branded stickers, or apply cold glue during fulfillment.
Board Grade and Thickness
Typical folding boxboard works well for clean 180-degree folds. Heavier boards offer more rigidity but may resist folding flat or require stronger adhesive to prevent the flaps from springing open.
Grain Direction
For the cleanest folds on the main closure flaps, the board grain should run parallel to the longest fold. This reduces the risk of cracking, especially on heavier paperboard grades.
Flap Overlap and Bevel Adjustments
Side Flap Overlap
The width of the side flaps can be adjusted. If the envelope will be pre-glued, these flaps must reach far enough toward the center to provide a reliable gluing surface for the bottom flap.
Top Flap Bevels
The angled shoulders on the top closure flap can be modified for aesthetic reasons or to change how the flap handles during opening.
Bottom Flap Height
The upward reach of the bottom flap can be adjusted to change the pocket depth or to alter the visual proportions of the envelope when opened.

The unfolded blank forms a wide diamond shape. While highly scalable, this shape creates interlocking nesting patterns on the press sheet that yield slightly more offcut waste than strictly rectangular boxes.

Can this envelope hold a small book or catalog?
Usually not. This template has zero depth capacity. Inserting anything thicker than a few millimeters will cause the board to bow and stress the folded corners. A capacity mailer is a better choice for books.
Does this envelope lock closed on its own?
No. The top flap requires external adhesive, such as a sticker, packing tape, or a factory-applied peel-and-seal strip, to stay closed.
How are these delivered?
They can be delivered completely flat for you to fold around your product, or the converter can pre-glue the side and bottom flaps so they arrive as open-top pockets ready for insertion.
Will this protect documents from bending in the mail?
The paperboard offers basic scratch and scuff protection, but the envelope relies entirely on its contents for rigidity. For rigid protection, you will need to include a stiff insert.
Can this be made from corrugated board?
No. Corrugated board is too thick for a zero-gusset envelope and will crush at the 180-degree hinges, severely limiting the internal space. It is designed for typical folding carton paperboard.
Can we add a tear strip for easy opening?
Yes. A tear strip can be added to the top flap during the die-cutting process, provided the sealing adhesive is placed correctly relative to the perforations.
Can we print on the inside of the envelope?
Yes. Because the envelope is formed from a single flat sheet, both the inside and outside surfaces can be printed before the flaps are folded and glued.
What happens if we put a 3D object inside?
The envelope has no depth scores. Inserting a bulky object will cause the paperboard to bow outward, stressing the folded corners and potentially tearing the hinges.
