When to Compare Flush-Edge Partitions
Standard slotted partitions (FEFCO 0934)
If your outer carton already has adequate crush zones or your product is not very fragile, a standard flush-edge partition is often a simpler choice and takes up less box volume.
Molded pulp or foam inserts
If you are packing very irregular shapes or need heavy shock absorption rather than simple separation, molded inserts may perform better than corrugated grids.
Board Thickness, Slot Fit, and Assembly Labor
Board thickness and slot width
The width of the interlocking slots should match the chosen board thickness. Mismatched board can cause the grid to bind during assembly or fit too loosely to provide rigidity.
Flute choice
E-flute provides excellent density and clean slots for smaller cells. B-flute or C-flute offers more cushioning for heavier items but needs wider slots and larger minimum cell sizes.
Assembly labor
These partitions involve manual assembly at the packing bench. Packers align and slide the perpendicular strips together before dropping the grid into the box.
