When to Consider Simpler Tray Styles
Short Runs or Prototype Testing
If your order volume is too low to justify the folder-gluer setup used for the pre-glued walls, a standard unglued roll-end tray or a four-corner beers tray may be more cost-effective to trial.
Heavy Corrugated Needs
This design relies on folding the corner gussets in half and trapping them inside the side walls. If your product uses thick corrugated board, these four-layer corners can bind or tear. A standard crash-lock or staple-corner tray is usually a better choice for heavy flutes.

Board Thickness and Fold Clearance
The paperboard caliper should be known before cutting. The template uses specific layer-step corrections to ensure the fold-over walls can clear the folded corner gussets. If the board is changed later, the locking tabs may fail to seat properly.
Print Layout and Coating
Because the inner walls fold over from the outside, all visible exterior and interior graphics can be printed on a single side of the flat blank. If you need high-gloss coatings or foil, discuss the glued wall areas with your converter to ensure the adhesive bonds correctly.
Folder-Gluer Setup vs. Run Size
The pre-glued walls rely on a specific folder-gluer setup during manufacturing. For very short runs or prototypes, the setup time may outweigh the benefits, making an unglued tray a more practical choice.
Insert and Partition Sizing
The double-wall construction and folded corner gussets take up a small amount of space inside the tray. Any custom inserts or partitions should be sized based on the final assembled internal dimensions, not just the base panel size.

Does this tray use glue on the packing line?
No. The top and bottom walls are pre-glued by the manufacturer before delivery. Your packing team simply pops the tray open and folds the remaining two walls over to lock it.
Is this tray leak-proof?
The webbed corners prevent dry goods, crumbs, and powders from escaping through the base corners. However, it is not liquid-tight unless a specific barrier coating or liner is applied.
Can this tray be made from corrugated board?
It is generally not recommended for thick corrugated board. The corner gussets fold into four layers, which can cause thick flutes to bind, tear, or prevent the locking tabs from seating. It is usually a better fit for solid bleached sulfate (SBS) or folding boxboard (FBB).
Can I ship this tray through parcel networks?
Because this is an open presentation tray, it should be placed inside a fitted outer shipper or mailer for parcel or courier delivery.
Can the inside of the tray be printed?
Yes. Because the inner walls are formed by folding the outer panels inward, both the inside and outside of the tray can be printed using a single-sided print run.
Why is folder-gluer setup used?
The converter typically folds and glues two of the walls flat while keeping the corner gussets free. This machine step is what allows the tray to pop open quickly during final fulfillment.
Does the double-wall construction affect internal dimensions?
Yes. The folded inner walls and the trapped corner gussets reduce the internal length and width slightly compared to the flat base panel. Inserts should be sized to the assembled interior.
