The double-creased spine and capacity gussets require the paperboard grain to run parallel to the folds. This helps prevent the board from cracking when the folder is opened and closed repeatedly.

Heavier catalogs may benefit from thicker paperboard to prevent the covers from bowing outward when the folder is lifted.
