When to Consider Alternative Retail Packaging

If the bagged product is too heavy, the hanger hole may tear out of the paperboard. For heavier items, consider a fully enclosed folding carton with an integrated hang tab, or a reinforced corrugated structure, rather than relying on a single suspended point.
Direct Parcel Shipping
Header cards are designed for retail display, not direct-to-consumer courier shipping. The hanger holes and exposed bag edges can snag in transit. If shipping directly, the bagged items must be packed inside an outer mailer or shipping box.

Bag Fastening Method
This template does not lock itself. You must decide how it will attach to the bag: staples (fast and economical, but not food-safe), applied adhesive, double-sided tape, or heat sealing (which requires a specific heat-activated coating on the board).
Board Thickness and Tear Strength
The weight of your product dictates the required board thickness. A heavier bag requires a thicker, more tear-resistant board to prevent the hanger hole from failing while on the pegboard.
Grain Direction and Fold Quality
To prevent the board from cracking along the top fold, especially with thick materials or heavy ink coverage, the paperboard grain must run parallel to the central crease.
Print Surface and Coating
Decide whether the inside of the fold requires printing. Also, if you plan to use heat sealing or specific adhesives, the board coating must be compatible with that fastening method.
Modifying the Header Card
Hanger Hole Shape and Dimensions
The default template uses a standard euro-hole (sombrero shape), but the width, height, and corner rounding can be adjusted to fit specific retail peg hardware. It can also be changed to a simple round hole.
Front and Back Panel Depth
The drop length of the front and back panels can be extended to provide more branding space or shortened to reveal more of the bag, provided there is enough surface area left to securely grip the pouch.
Corner Rounding
The radius of the four outer corners can be adjusted to match branding guidelines or to prevent sharp edges from catching on adjacent products during packing and display.

If you are using automated bag-topping machinery, the die-cut waste from the hanger holes must be completely stripped at the factory to prevent jams on your packing line.

They can be applied manually (often with a stapler or pre-applied peel-and-seal tape) or fed into automated bag-topping equipment. If using machinery, ensure the factory fully strips the hanger hole waste to prevent feeding jams.
