Premium Tapered Paperboard Shopping Bag

The open top and physical handles make it vulnerable in courier networks. It is built for hand-carry retail or should be placed inside a separate corrugated shipping box for transit.

The paperboard bag arrives glued and folded flat. Popping the bag open is quick, but threading and knotting the physical ropes or ribbons is a manual step that is planned for, either at the fulfillment center or by retail staff.

The front and back main panels offer large, uninterrupted surfaces for printing, foil, or embossing. The side gussets fold inward, so critical graphics are usually kept away from the central vertical creases to avoid distortion.

Weight capacity depends on the chosen board thickness, the strength of the bottom glue seams, and the tear resistance of the handle knots against the reinforced rim. Heavy items like glass bottles should be tested with a physical prototype.

This template uses heavier folding boxboard or solid bleached board. This gives the bag a sturdy, premium presentation rather than the soft, crinkly feel of a standard grocery bag.

It is not recommended. The 180-degree fold doubles the board thickness at the top edge. Without it, the handle holes would only have a single ply of paperboard, increasing the risk of tearing when the bag is carried.

Because the bags are delivered pressed completely flat, they take up very little space in a backroom. They are popped open individually as needed at the checkout counter.

Testing a physical sample helps confirm that the chosen rope or ribbon fits easily through the die-cut holes and that the knots sit firmly under the folded rim without pulling through.
