FEFCO reference
What a FEFCO number means
FEFCO is the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers. Its code is a shared numbering system for corrugated board packaging, used so a buyer, designer, and factory can point to the same basic construction.
A code such as 0201 or 0428 gives the shared structure. The same structure can be made in different internal sizes, board grades, flute profiles, print finishes, closures, insert layouts, and quantities.
- Construction
- The first two digits show the family. The last two identify the base design. Suffixes may mark variants.
- Dimensions
- FEFCO dimensions are normally internal length x width x height. Board thickness changes the outside size.
- Board build
- Wall type, flute, liner grade, and print surface affect strength, weight, stacking, and finish.
- Assembly
- The manufacturer joint may be glued, stitched, or taped. Closures can use tape, tuck flaps, locks, sleeves, lids, or crash-lock bottoms.
- Run method
- Hand assembly, repeated packing runs, and equipment-assisted setup can change the practical version of the design.
- Custom changes
- Handles, windows, inserts, print panels, flute direction, and combined styles can move the pack beyond the standard FEFCO version.
