Because the front and back walls roll over and lock into the base, the tray assembles using mechanical friction locks and hides the raw corrugated edges from the consumer. It is delivered flat to the fulfillment center and is usually packed inside an outer master shipper for transit.

The roll-over locking tabs require manual downward pressure to seat correctly. If your facility relies on high-speed automated tray erectors, a machine-glued tray or a four-corner glued design may be a better fit.

Heavy pallet stacking

The open top and tapered sides mean this tray is not designed to support vertical weight on its own. If pallets will be stacked without master shippers, a fully enclosed box or a tray with reinforced stacking corners is worth comparing.

Board thickness, print surfaces, and lip height

Board thickness and fold clearances

The front and back walls roll over the side dust flaps and lock into the base. Thinner boards like E-flute or B-flute fold cleanly and seat well. Thicker boards, such as C-flute or double-wall, can make the roll-over bulky and cause the locking tabs to pop out.

Inside and outside print surfaces

Because the front and back walls roll inward, the outside of the flat blank becomes the inside of the assembled tray. If you need branding on both the exterior walls and the interior floor, two-sided printing or a specific mottled inner liner should be discussed.

While friction-locked assembly is convenient, the roll-over locking motion requires an operator to align the tabs into the base slots. This is highly efficient for manual pack stations but is not processed by standard automated folder-gluers.
