When to Consider a Different Display Style

Need for a standalone shipper

This tray has an open top and cannot be shipped via parcel or freight without an outer box. If you need a display that doubles as its own shipper, compare tear-away display shippers or hood-style display boxes.

High-speed automated packing

The roll-over locking walls are designed for manual assembly. If your packing line relies on automated folder-gluers or tray erectors, a machine-erected glued tray is a better fit.

Board, Print, and Assembly Choices

Board Grade and Flute

E-flute (1.5mm) is a common choice, offering a clean print surface and crisp folds for the roll-over walls. B-flute (3.0mm) can be used for heavier products but requires adjusting the slot widths and double creases to prevent the locks from tearing.

Print Surface

The roll-over construction means the inside of the back wall and the outside of the side and front walls are formed from the same side of the corrugated blank. This allows for continuous graphics on the primary visible surfaces.

Master Carton Sizing

Because this tray does not have a lid, the outer master carton must be sized to accommodate the loaded tray and protect the exposed products from vertical compression during transit.

Packing Labor

The roll-over walls require manual folding and locking. For repeat, high-volume packing lines, weigh the labor cost of hand assembly against the speed of a machine-glued tray.

Adjusting the Display Profile

Front Panel Height

The height of the low front wall can be adjusted to retain taller or heavier products. Changing this height also alters the bottom point of the swooping side profile.

Locking Tab Sizing

The tuck tongues that secure the roll-over walls can be lengthened or widened to provide a tighter lock, depending on the stiffness of the chosen board.

Swoop Profile Curve

The curve cut into the front dust flaps can be made steeper or shallower to reveal more of the primary product face or provide more side retention.

Flatbed Production

The swooping curves and locking tongues are produced on flatbed equipment, which is highly repeatable for medium to high volumes but less suited for simple rotary slotters.

Blank Sprawl

The cross-shaped flat blank, created by the roll-over walls and side flaps, consumes more corrugated board than a simple glued tray. This is the trade-off for achieving a clean, glue-free presentation.

Additional notes

Print panel and label area

The roll-over design exposes the inside of the corrugated board on the back wall and the outside of the board on the front and sides. Discuss two-sided printing if the interior floor of the tray also needs graphics.

Retail shelf loading

Store staff can easily lift the loaded tray from its master carton and place it on the shelf. The high back wall prevents products from falling backward, while the low front ensures immediate shoppability.

Does this tray require glue or tape?

The tray is designed for manual assembly without adhesives. The front and back walls roll over the side flaps and lock into slots in the base panel.

Can I ship this tray directly in the mail?

The open top provides no vertical protection or containment for parcel shipping. It must be packed inside a master shipping carton.

Which board thicknesses are suitable?

E-flute (1.5mm) is a common choice for retail displays, providing a good balance of printability and foldability. Heavy double-wall board is not recommended, as the roll-over folds may crack or resist bending.

How is the swooping side profile created?

Unlike some displays where the outer side walls are cut into a curve, this tray uses full-height rectangular side walls. The swooping curve is actually cut into the front dust flaps, which fold inward to sit behind the low front wall.

Can the height of the front wall be changed?

The front panel height can be raised to hold taller products securely, which will also adjust the angle of the swooping side transition.

Will the front wall pop open under product weight?

The front wall is secured by a tuck tongue that locks into the base. For heavier products, the tongue dimensions and base slots must be precisely matched to the board thickness to ensure a strong hold.

How does the tray stay square during packing?

The front and back roll-over walls lock into the base panel, trapping the side flaps. This holds the side walls upright and maintains rigid corners while products are loaded.

Does the tray support interior printing?

The roll-over design naturally exposes the inside of the corrugated board on the back wall. If the interior floor of the tray also needs branding, two-sided printing is required.
