When to Consider Pre-Glued or Simpler Trays
High-volume manual packing
Folding four double walls and trapping webbed corners by hand is labor-intensive. If your fulfillment line relies on manual assembly, a pre-glued tray will set up much faster, though it requires a gluing pass during manufacturing.
Heavy transit shipping
This is an open presentation tray. If the primary goal is shipping through mixed parcel networks, it will need a sturdy outer carton, a fitted sleeve, or a full lid to protect the contents and maintain the tray shape.
Board Selection and Assembly Planning
Automated forming versus hand assembly
This tray is designed for automated tray formers. While short runs or prototypes can be folded by hand, the sequence is complex. Discuss your packing line capabilities early so the template can be matched to your equipment.
Board grade and folding endurance
The inner walls must fold 180 degrees to lock into the base. This requires a board grade with excellent folding endurance, such as solid bleached board (SBB) or high-quality folding boxboard (FBB). Stiff or brittle materials may crack along these hinges.
Inner wall clearance
The tabs on the long inner walls must seat perfectly into the base creases to hold the tray together. If you change the board thickness, these clearances must be recalculated, or the inner walls may pop out or crush during assembly.
Outer shipper requirements
Because this tray is open and relies on friction locks, it is not designed to ship on its own. Plan for a fitted outer carton or sleeve if the product will be shipped individually.

The locking tabs can be adjusted in height and width to match the exact caliper of the chosen board, ensuring a tight friction fit without tearing the base creases.
Inner wall height
The inner walls are slightly shorter than the outer walls to account for the thickness of the board when folded. This offset can be adjusted to ensure the walls sit flush against the base without bowing.
Webbed corner offset
The diagonal fold of the webbed corner can be adjusted to prevent excessive bulk from interfering with the inner wall locks, especially if a slightly thicker board is used.

Blank size and material usage
Because every wall is doubled and the corners include extra webbing, the flat blank for this tray is much larger than its finished footprint. This increases material usage per unit, which is offset by eliminating the gluing process.
