Board, Print, and Assembly Choices

Board caliper and lock clearance

The side walls lock into the base using small tabs (nibs). If you specify a thicker board or a micro-flute, the die-cutting template needs adjustment to widen the fold clearances, or the locks will bind and tear.

Interior print surfaces

Because the side walls roll over 180 degrees, the inside of the side walls is actually printed on the same side of the flat blank as the exterior. This allows for interior branding without needing two-sided printing.

Closure security

The standard tuck flap relies on friction. If the package will be handled frequently on retail shelves, you may want to add a clear wafer seal or label to keep the lid firmly closed.

Production volume and assembly labor

Can this be made from corrugated board?

It is primarily designed for folding carton board (FBB, SBS). Using corrugated micro-flute is risky because the tight 180-degree roll-over folds and small locking tabs can crush or bind.

No. The friction tuck lid and unglued walls are vulnerable to crushing and popping open in parcel networks. It should be placed inside a corrugated mailer or master shipper.

The B20.01.00.50.12 variant features a perforated band across the front wall. When pulled, it cleanly severs the front wall, allowing the lid to be removed so the carton functions as a shelf display.

Print and Finish

Can I print on the inside of the box?

Yes. Because the side walls roll inward, their interior faces are printed on the same side of the flat sheet as the outside of the box. Printing the entire interior floor requires two-sided printing.

It can be automated, but it needs specific plunger-style tray-forming equipment to handle the fold-over locks. It is very commonly erected by hand.
