Premium retail packaging
The rolled side walls conceal the corner dust flaps, leaving a clean, uninterrupted interior surface. This makes the carton a strong fit for cosmetics, light electronics, and health goods where the unboxing presentation matters.
Shelf-ready display (SRP)
When configured with a perforated front wall, the carton ships closed and can be torn open at the retail shelf. This allows store staff to place the entire tray directly on the shelf for immediate product access.
Kitted subscription boxes
The double-thick side walls provide enough rigidity to hold multiple small items securely. The clean interior edges prevent products from catching on raw board during unpacking.
Lightweight consumer goods
Because the front and back walls are single-ply, this tray is suited for lighter items that will not push outward heavily against the tuck flap.
Product Fit and Packing Context
Manual packing lines
This carton is natively unglued. While it saves on manufacturing setup and inbound freight, it shifts the labor to the packing station. Operators pre-break the creases and roll the side walls into the base slots before loading.
Master carton shipping
The friction tuck lid and single-ply front wall are vulnerable to crushing and opening in parcel networks. These cartons should be packed into a corrugated master shipper for distribution.
Retail shelf presentation
The lack of glue seams and the rolled interior edges create a polished look when the box is opened on a display counter or retail shelf.
When to Consider a Different Tray Style
Heavy or shifting products
Because the front and back walls are single-ply, heavy items can cause the carton to bow outward. If you are packing dense goods, a tray with four double walls may provide better containment.
High-speed fulfillment
If hand assembly of roll-over walls slows down the packing line, a pre-glued crash-lock carton may offer faster setup times, though it involves different manufacturing steps.
Board, Print, and Assembly Choices
Board caliper and lock clearance
The side walls lock into the base using small tabs (nibs). If you specify a thicker board or a micro-flute, the die-cutting template needs adjustment to widen the fold clearances, or the locks will bind and tear.
Interior print surfaces
Because the side walls roll over 180 degrees, the inside of the side walls is actually printed on the same side of the flat blank as the exterior. This allows for interior branding without needing two-sided printing.
Closure security
The standard tuck flap relies on friction. If the package will be handled frequently on retail shelves, you may want to add a clear wafer seal or label to keep the lid firmly closed.
Production volume and assembly labor
The unglued design reduces manufacturing steps and inbound freight volume, but takes more time per unit to fold by hand. This tradeoff should be weighed against the cost of pre-glued alternatives.
Board and packing details
Grain direction
For the cleanest assembly, the board's grain direction should run parallel to the main roll-over creases. This prevents the double-thick walls from cracking when folded 180 degrees.
Display and Closure Variants
Tear-away display front (B20.01.00.50.12)
Adds a two-sided perforated tear strip across the front wall. Pulling the strip removes the upper section of the front wall and releases the lid, converting the carton into an open display tray.
