Triangular product separation
Useful for keeping two triangular items, such as sandwiches, pie slices, or specialty components, isolated from each other. The diagonal web prevents the items from shifting or crushing together during transit.
Internal lateral support
Even when product separation is secondary, the diagonal web acts as a central pillar. It provides lateral shear resistance, preventing the rectangular sleeve and the surrounding master carton from skewing into a parallelogram under pressure.
Angled presentation
For retail displays, the diagonal web holds items at an angle. When the master carton is opened, the products are presented facing upward and outward rather than lying flat.
Void fill for irregular shapes
When packing irregularly shaped items that do not fill a rectangular space, the triangular cells can stabilize the product and prevent it from rattling against the outer carton walls.

Food and retail packaging
Commonly used inside a primary carton for grab-and-go food items. The insert keeps the presentation neat, though the specific paperboard chosen must be certified for direct food contact if the items are unwrapped.
Cosmetics and kitting
Useful for presenting two items at an angle when the top of the master carton is opened, holding them securely in their respective triangular cells.
Industrial component packing
Used to separate heavy or delicate triangular parts. The double-thick side wall and diagonal brace provide structure, keeping metal or plastic components from damaging each other.
When to compare other internal dividers
Products are rectangular or cylindrical
If the items being packed are not triangular, a diagonal divider creates awkward void spaces. A parallel divider or a custom die-cut platform may be a better choice.
The items are different sizes
This template creates two exactly equal cells. If one product is larger than the other, an uneven diagonal compartment is required to shift the dividing web off-center.
Fit, assembly, and board thickness choices
Pre-glued versus unglued delivery
The overlapping side panels can be glued on a straight-line folder-gluer, allowing the packer to pop the sleeve open and slide it into the master carton. Alternatively, it can be supplied unglued for manual folding, relying on the tight fit of the master carton to hold the shape.
Master carton clearances
The outer dimensions of this insert must be toleranced against the exact inner dimensions of the master carton. If the insert is too large, it will bow the outer box; if too small, it will rattle.
Board thickness calibration
The length of the diagonal web is mathematically tied to the width and length of the sleeve. If the board thickness changes, the folding clearances must be recalculated to ensure the web fits perfectly corner-to-corner without bowing.
Material choice for food contact
If the insert will touch unwrapped food, the paperboard substrate and any coatings must be certified for direct food contact. Otherwise, standard folding boxboard is sufficient.
Modifying the divider for access and print
Access cutouts
Half-moon thumb notches can be added to the top edges of the diagonal web or the outer walls to make it easier for consumers to grip and remove the products.
Print and finish
Because this is an internal component, it is often run on unprinted, uncoated board to reduce costs. If the inside of the master carton is meant for display, the insert can be printed to match.
Grain direction
To maintain the rigidity of the diagonal web, the paperboard grain should run parallel to the depth of the sleeve. This prevents the long diagonal panel from bending under vertical compression.

Master carton compatibility and testing
Because this insert relies on the outer carton to hold its shape and provide top-to-bottom closure, the two components should be tested together. The insert's outer dimensions must be slightly smaller than the master carton's inner dimensions to allow sliding without binding, while remaining tight enough to prevent rattling.
