When to compare glued partitions or standalone boxes
Standalone Packaging Needs
This insert has no closure of its own and will uncoil if not constrained. If a standalone twin-pack is needed, compare it to a fully glued carton with an integrated divider.
Automated Cartoning Lines
Folding and inserting an unglued spiral is typically a manual task. If the packing line relies on high-speed robotic pick-and-place, a pre-glued collapsible partition may be a safer choice.

Outer Carton Dimensions
The insert must be sized to the exact inner dimensions of the primary carton. A tight fit ensures the divider stays locked in place and maintains its shape.

Because the material spirals inward, the inner panels must be mathematically reduced based on the board thickness to prevent bowing. The grain direction must also run parallel to the creases for clean, stress-free folds.

Standard folding boxboard is often chosen for lightweight cosmetics, while heavier items may need a thicker board, which in turn changes the folding clearances.

Outer carton compatibility
This insert is designed to fit inside a standard rectangular folding carton. If the primary carton has tapered walls or a complex closure that intrudes into the interior space, the insert dimensions must be adjusted to avoid interference.

Assembly and packing
Does this insert need glue or tape?
It is a friction-fit design. The operator folds the panels into a spiral and slides it into the outer carton, which holds the shape together without adhesive.
Can this be erected by automated machinery?
Folding an unglued spiral and holding it while inserting it into a box is difficult for automated cartoning equipment. It is usually packed by hand.
Product fit and standalone use
Can I use this as a standalone box?
Without an outer carton to constrain it, the folded board will naturally uncoil and lose its shape. It must be used as an internal component.
Board thickness and grain direction
What happens if I change the board thickness?
The inner panels must be slightly smaller than the outer panels to fold inside them. If you switch to a thicker board without updating the template, the central divider will bow and the insert will not fit properly.

Will this protect fragile items?
It prevents two items from striking each other and adds vertical strength to the outer box, but it does not provide cushioning on its own. For heavy or highly fragile goods, corrugated board or additional void fill may be needed.

Can the insert be printed?
It is often left plain to save costs. If you do print it, keep in mind that the folding sequence exposes different sides of the flat sheet in each compartment.
