When to Consider Separate Inlays or Trays

This is strictly an open-ended interior component. If you need a self-contained box, evaluate full folding cartons or mailers.
Board, Fit, and Production Choices
Outer sleeve fit
The insert relies entirely on its outer carton or sleeve to hold its shape. The external dimensions of the rolled insert must be specified to match the internal clearance of the outer package.
Material thickness (caliper)
The folding geometry is sensitive to board thickness. The exact paperboard caliper must be known early, as the shelf width and support leg height are calculated to account for the board's own thickness during the 180-degree folds.
Gluing requirements
The 180-degree inner wall folds are typically glued by the converter so the piece lies flat during transit. Confirm this production step to ensure the inserts arrive ready for quick pop-up assembly.
Shelf load and board grade
The weight of the upper product dictates the required board stiffness. Heavier items require a more rigid paperboard to prevent the suspended platform from sagging.
Board and packing details
Print surface planning
If the interior of the U-channel and the top of the shelf require graphics, the flat blank must be printed on the 'inside' of the roll. Discuss print orientation carefully before artwork is finalized.
