Packing and Display Contexts
Automated packing
This style relies on automated wrap-around packing. The flat blanks are fed into the machine, wrapped around the collated bottles, and sealed. It is efficient for large production runs but difficult for manual fulfillment.
Retail display and merchandising
The carrier is designed to stand upright on shelves or in coolers. The closed side panels create a more contained multipack presentation, while the main carton panels carry the branding and barcodes.
Multi-pack promotional programs
Brands running seasonal or limited-time promotions use this style to quickly bundle existing single bottles into a new retail SKU without changing the primary packaging.
When to Consider Alternative Carriers
Hand-packing operations
If you are packing multipacks manually, a pre-glued crash-lock basket carrier or a self-locking wrap-around style is a more practical choice.
Multi-row configurations
If your product requires a 2x2 or 2x3 layout, you will need a double-row wrap-around template rather than this single-row design.
Fit and Closure Decisions
Bottle profile and cutout design
The diameter of the bottle base, the taper of the neck, and the size of the cap dictate the CAD adjustments. The cutouts need to be engineered to grip the bottles without tearing the board during the automated wrap process.
Board strength and moisture resistance
Heavy glass bottles require board grades that reduce the risk of the carrier bowing when lifted. If the product will be refrigerated, moisture resistance should be discussed to help maintain integrity in damp environments.
Glue flap placement
Depending on the packing setup, the glue flap can be positioned to seal underneath the base or along the lower edge of the back panel. This should be coordinated with the packing facility.
Carrier length and bottle count
The total length of the blank depends on the number of bottles and their diameter. The packing line must be able to accommodate the full flat blank size before wrapping.
Template Adjustments for Bottle Fit
Bottle count variations
While frequently shown as a 3-pack, the template length can be adjusted to accommodate 2, 4, or 5 bottles in a single row, provided the total weight remains manageable for the board grade.
Retention tab styles
The circular cutouts can be modified with radial slits, starburst cuts, or fold-in tabs to provide a tighter grip around cap styles or neck tapers.
Glue flap positioning
The template can be adjusted to place the final glued seam on the bottom panel or the lower back panel, depending on the folding sequence of the automated packing setup.
Board and packing details
Blank feeding and tolerances
Because this carton is erected at high speeds, the flat blanks need to be cut cleanly and lay flat. Board warp or inconsistent die-cutting can cause misfeeds.
