Fine powders and sift risks

Heavy bulk items
Dense, heavy products shifting during transit place outward pressure on the side perforation. If the payload is heavy, the tear strip strength must be carefully balanced against the board's tear resistance, or a different closure may be needed.
Board, Gluing, and Tear Strip Planning
Zoned gluing capability
The converter must be able to apply adhesive only to the lower section of the glue flap, below the tear strip. If glue is applied continuously, the door will be sealed shut.
Grain direction
For a clean, straight opening, the board's grain direction should run parallel to the horizontal tear strip.
Coatings and laminations
Heavy film laminations applied over the tear strip area can prevent the perforation from breaking cleanly. Surface finishes should be discussed early in the project.
Perforation strength and board weight
The cut-to-tie ratio of the tear strip must be matched to the board grade. If the ties are too strong, the board delaminates; if they are too weak, the door opens prematurely during packing or transit.
